15% of all over 80s have advanced AMD

time from initial symptoms to severe is usually between 6 and 12 months
AMD causes progressive deterioration of sight:

no driving

no reading (newspapers, TV programmes, books, signs,)

no writing

fewer smiles, no face recognition. No eye contact

loss of colour definition, and clarity; need more light,
