Brexit + 10

With the tenth anniversary this week, and the seventh Prime Minister having come and gone, I think the two are related.

No political party thought Brexit was a good idea, and indeed there were many in the Project Fear team. Not surprisingly, there were no plans for what to do, let alone how to do it.

So it has all been a bit half-hearted.

What we are left with is an unhappy 52% of our voters who feel they are being ignored.

52% of 34,000,000 is about 18,000,000 voters, ready for the team with the most constructive programme to fulfil their demand.

That plan needs:

  • A Brexit Minister at the heart of the Cabinet, with a good team
  • A comprehensive action plan
  • Support from the whole Cabinet

The action plan will need to include:

  1. Leave the ECJ and correct the mistakes of the last ten years.
  2. Leave the ECHR and correct all the errors of the last ten years.
  3. Demand that Northern Ireland is seen as an integral part of the United Kingdom.
  4. Demand that Gibraltar is also seen as integral to Britain.
  5. Either set up a “Certificate of Exemption” for companies not intending to export to the EU, and exempt them from EU regulations, or eliminate all the regulations we have been given.
  6. I have also noticed that the taste and texture of some fruit and vegetables has deteriorated, so we need tasting teams at all the ports. However, we should accept that this may cause some delays until the growers have sorted the problem out.

In this period of ten years, we have:

  • Achieved trade deals with all the countries we want to, including America and India, increasing GDP by 3% per annum.
  • Achieved defence deals with all the countries we want to, including Ukraine, Australia, New Zealand and Canada, through arrangements such as AUKUS and Five Eyes.
  • Developed the power and scope of London’s financial centre.
  • Developed our fusion power technology.
  • Extended our capability to innovate, including:
    • London for fintech and AI
    • Cambridge for life sciences and deep tech
    • Oxford for biotech
    • Edinburgh and Glasgow for satellite technology and renewables
    • Manchester for new materials and digital technology
